MUSICA
FLOREA North American Debut Tour: February 2010
Musica
Florea
was founded in 1992 by cellist and conductor Marek Štryncl as an orchestra whose
ideal is to perform Baroque through early Classical repertoire using period
practice and instruments in a manner that is significantly further developed
than many of the modern day pioneers of the genre. Their unique
achievement has been attested to by numerous awards including the l Cannes Best Classical Award (J.D. Zelenka Melodrama de Santo Wencesiao, Supraphon) l Golden Harmony Award (J.S Bach arias with Magdalena Kožená, Polygram) l Diapason magazine’s Highest Distinction (Zelenka Missa Sanctissimae Trinitatis, Studio Matouš) l
Music Critic’s Award at the 7th
Central European Festival of Concert Art. In the 2009-2010
season, Stanton Management is pleased to present the North American debut of
this wonderful European orchestra which brings the golden age of music to
bubbling, dynamic life. Since its founding,
Musica
Florea
has given hundreds of concerts throughout Europe including performances at major
festivals such as the Europalia Festival, Prague Spring Festival, Resonanzen
Wien, and the Festival van Vlaandaren Brugge. In addition to performing works by
illustrious composers such as J.S Bach, G.P. Telemann, J.D. Zelenka and Antonio
Vivaldi, the orchestra has discovered and brought to life many forgotten
composers and works in modern premieres. From the beginning
Musica
Florea
has collaborated with renowned ensembles such as Les Musiciens du Paradis, the
Orlando Consort, Boni Pueri, Regensburger Domspatzen, Musica Aeterna and others.
From 1999-2002 Musica
Florea
was part of an international team performing an exceptional production of J.P.
Rameau’s opera “Castor et Pollux” mounted at the National Theater in Prague.
Musica
Florea
has recorded extensively for numerous labels including Polygram, Supraphon,
Studio Matouš, Pure Classics, Glissando, Jary, CFM, and others. Musica
Florea’s
artistic leader Marek Štryncl (b.
1974) has been lauded as a great innovator in period performance. He studied
both cello and conducting at the Conservatory of Teplice and baroque cello at
the Dresdner Akademie für Alte Musik. In addition to Musica Florea, Mr. Štryncl
has performed with Musica Aeterna, Musicalische Compagney, Ensemble Philidor,
Ganz Europa, Collegium 1704, and Musica Antiqua Praha. Mr. Štryncl also guest
conducts numerous orchestras throughout Europe in repertoire ranging through
contemporary.
